ALLOCASUARINA

Where considered design meets award-winning craftsmanship

Design by Reitsma & Associates

Award-Winning Design, Built Against the Elements

Set within a secluded coastal bushland setting, Allocasuarina was conceived as a private, low-maintenance retirement home with a strong connection to its natural surroundings. Delivered by Gold Leaf Constructions in collaboration with Reitsma & Associates, the home combines considered passive design, highly resolved detailing and a technically complex construction methodology.

At the centre of the home sits a remarkable 16-metre semi-enclosed pool, forming a spine between the living and accommodation zones. A sequence of skylights draws natural light deep into the home, reflecting across the water and into adjoining spaces, while expansive openings encourage cross ventilation and connect the interiors with the surrounding landscape.

Behind the restrained finished form is an equally impressive structure. A full steel framing system was selected in response to the site’s high termite risk and demanding environmental conditions, while also enabling the large spans, elevated ceilings and precision required by the design. The structure was delivered in four semi-trailer loads, with every component transported to the remote site by barge under strict weight and tidal restrictions.

Construction presented challenges at almost every turn. Extensive underlying rock affected excavation, footings and services, including the excavation required for the central pool. Bushfire requirements, coastal exposure and termite risk all influenced material selection and detailing, while the home’s long linear elevations, extensive glazing, skylights and integration of the pool within the building envelope demanded exceptionally accurate set-out and coordination.

Despite its complexity and remote location, Allocasuarina was delivered ahead of schedule through careful planning, close collaboration and rigorous quality control.

In August 2026, that work was recognised at the Master Builders Queensland Sunshine Coast Housing & Construction Awards, where Allocasuarina received two awards:

Winner – Individual Home from $1.5 million up to $2 million
Winner – TRUECORE® Best Use of Steel Frame Housing

For Gold Leaf Constructions, the dual recognition is particularly meaningful. One award celebrates the home as a completed work; the other recognises the structure, planning and craftsmanship behind it. Together, they reflect what Allocasuarina represents to us – thoughtful design realised through precision, collaboration and an uncompromising approach to construction.
